The National Bank of Belize (NBB) announced a partnership with financial technology company Bitt Inc. in November 2021 to create a stablecoin for the NBB, in addition to a digital payments system called the NBB Pay. Through this arrangement, NBB has obtained the licensing of Bitt’s digital currency infrastructure, facilitating convenient, secure, and efficient payment solutions for both retail and business users. This initiative aims to support their recovery from the impacts of the global economic crisis during covid pandemic.
