NBG (National Bank of Georgia) has been working on researching CBDC since 2020. A number of studies have been conducted on the concept of central bank digital currency and decentralized finance. It published a detailed working paper that aimed to present research on topics relevant to central banks and economics profession.
In April 2021, the NBG invited fintech companies to participate in the Digital Lari project. NBG will select a technological partner to provide a CBDC technology for the Digital Lari pilot project, based on information provided by the companies, including the CBDC system, technical capabilities, security, and technological proposal for the pilot project.
